Carlton V. Horbelt Memorial Fund
The Boards of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry, Special Care Dentistry Association and SAID mourn the loss of a colleague, pioneer and true friend. Dr. Horbelt was a kind and jovial clinician who had a passion for teaching others about the joy of caring for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
To honor Dr. Horbelt’s dedication to his patients, his friends and his profession, the AADMD and Special Care Dentistry Association have established the Carlton V. Horbelt Memorial Scholarship Fund. Each year, a portion of the fund will be awarded to a promising young dental student, or recent dental graduate, who desires to learn more about providing dental care to people with developmental disabilities. The award will be used to provide educational opportunities for the recipient.
Dr. Horbelt was a proud Texan and practiced dentistry there until 2001 when he moved to Memphis to take the position of Director of Dental Services at Arlington Developmental Center. Dr. Horbelt remained in this position until his death in late 2009. Dr. Horbelt maintained membership in multiple organizations, including: SCDA, American College of Dentists, ABSCD, SAID, IADH, National Academies of Practice and Dentistry, ADA, AADMD, Special Olympics, FADPD, FACD, FICD, FPFA. He has received numerous honors over the years.
We invite you to make a donation to the Carlton V. Horbelt Memorial Scholarship Fund, to help us continue the legacy of this great clinician, role model, and friend.
